These wins follow hot on the heels of Nisa retailers’ successes at the 2024 Scottish Local Retailer Awards. Each of these accolades celebrates the incredible achievements of Nisa retailers, highlighting their innovation, forward-thinking approach and the positive impact they continue to have on local communities across the UK.
A night to remember
Topping the night at the RIA was the surprise recognition of our Making a Difference Locally (MADL) programme with the prestigious Outstanding Achievement Award – an historic first for a charity.
This award was a special recognition of MADL’s exceptional contributions to local communities, with the charity raising over £1 million since September 2023 through fundraising initiatives like Co-op own-brand product sales, in-store collection tins and clothing banks. MADL supports causes chosen by Nisa’s independent retailers, helping to raise over £100,000 every month for local charities and groups. This year marks the 15th anniversary of MADL’s ongoing support for local communities.
Recognition for retailers
Our retailers were well represented at the RIA, with Dorset-based Dike & Son scooping up three awards: Drinks Retailer of the Year, Chilled Retailer of the Year and Independent Retailer of the Year (over 6,000sq. ft). These wins highlight Dike & Son’s dedication to providing top-tier service and products in multiple categories.
In addition, Childerley Gate Service Station, operated by the Highland Group, was awarded Forecourt Retailer of the Year for independent retailers (over 3,001sq. ft), and Don Antony Manavalan, store manager at Nisa Local Northfields, was honoured with the Store Manager of the Year award for his exceptional leadership and commitment to his store.
Following Scottish success
These incredible wins followed Nisa retailer successes at this year’s Scottish Local Retailer Awards. PGNJ Ltd won Best New Store for their Rutherglen site, and Julie-Ann Whyte’s Whytes of New Pitsligo was named Community Retailer of the Year.
These achievements further demonstrate the strength and versatility of our offering, from innovative new stores to retailers committed to making a difference in their communities.
