Chocolate orange brownies
There’s probably only one way to improve on chocolate brownies… and that’s with the injection of a little bit of orange-y magic. Who isn’t a sucker for chocolate orange, anyway?!
Makes about 10 brownies
- 210g dark chocolate, chopped
- 200g salted butter, sliced
- 325g caster sugar
- 100g plain flour
- 90g dark orange chocolate, chopped
- 50g cocoa powder
- 4 medium eggs
- Zest of 1 large orange
Heat the oven to 180°C/160 fan/gas mark 4. Line a baking tin with baking paper.
Add the butter, dark chocolate and orange zest to a saucepan and stir over a very low heat. Pay careful attention to the chocolate, ensuring it doesn’t burn.
Whisk the caster sugar and eggs together with an electric whisk, until pale. The mixture should increase in size and there should be a trail left on the surface for a second or two when the whisk is removed.
Add the chocolate mixture and sift in the plain flour. Then, add the chopped orange chocolate.
Pour the mixture into the baking tin, and bake for 35 minutes until the brownie comes away from the sides and the top is slightly cracked.
