MPK Garages celebrates first year success with own brand Pop-In Daily and Nisa

In 2023, MPK Garages, a Top 50 Indie forecourt retailer, embarked on an exciting new chapter by transforming 28 of its forecourt sites into co-branded Pop-In Daily/Nisa stores.

This strategic shift has brought significant benefits, allowing MPK to expand its retail offering under the Pop-In Daily brand while leveraging Nisa’s extensive product range and support to enhance the shopping experience for customers across its locations.

The 28 Pop-In Daily stores, located primarily in the Midlands and along key transport routes such as the M5 between Birmingham and Bristol, and the M1 from Nottingham to Durham, range in size from 1,000 to 3,000 square feet. These stores prioritise convenience with a strong focus on food-to-go and chilled products, key offerings that cater to the needs of today’s fast-paced consumers.

The transition to Nisa as a sole supplier in 2023 was a pivotal move for MPK’s Pop-In Daily brand, following years of operating under various banners.

Through Nisa, these stores have gained access to a wider variety of products, including the popular Co-op own-brand range. This diverse product selection has played a vital role in helping Pop-In Daily differentiate itself in the highly competitive convenience retail sector, increasing customer satisfaction and driving sales growth across all locations.

Wayne Harrand, MPK’s Retail Director, reflected on the success of the partnership: “Partnering with Nisa to supply our stores has been transformative for our business. The flexibility Nisa provides allows us to adapt our product range to fit the specific needs of each location, whether we’re focusing on groceries or fresh, chilled products. This ability to tailor our offering is key to serving our diverse customer base.”

A key factor behind the success of has been the ability for Nisa to supply Co-op own-brand products, which have been well received by customers. From fresh food to essential groceries, Co-op’s quality products have become a hallmark of Pop-In Daily’s offering, helping the stores stand out from competitors.

“Co-op’s fresh range, particularly their sandwiches and chilled snacks, has been a standout for our customers at Pop-In Daily stores. This has enabled us to provide high-quality, fresh choices alongside everyday convenience items,” said Harrand.

The financial performance of MPK stores has seen a marked improvement since the Nisa partnership. In 2023, both gross profit and margins increased, with food-to-go and convenience items contributing significantly to the growth.

The ability to meet local demand, combined with Nisa’s efficient supply chain, has ensured product availability, with frequent deliveries—some locations receiving up to four deliveries a week to keep pace with customer needs.

“Nisa’s support has been invaluable. Their efficient delivery systems, competitive pricing, and flexible case sizes have enabled stores to maintain high stock levels, particularly for fresh and chilled products. This has been crucial in meeting customer demand across our various locations,” Harrand added.

The successful collaboration between MPK and Nisa has set the stage for future growth, as the flexibility and extensive product range offered by Nisa enable MPK to capitalise on the increasing demand for convenience goods and food-to-go options.
