Ardleigh Village Service Station relaunches with Nisa

Ardleigh Village Service Station near Colchester has relaunched as a Nisa Local with the sales area of the store doubling in size.

The former Spar store reopened in July with early feedback from customers very encouraging.

The Shell forecourt remains untouched as it was refurbished a year into the Tankerford Ltd ownership. But the store has doubled in size to around 1,300 sq. ft.

As part of the refurbishment, the store now has a strong focus on food to go having added Calippo Slush, Shmoo Milkshakes and Rollover Hotdogs to enhance the proposition.

The store has also installed electronic shelf labelling to support with instant pricing and promotion changes.

During the opening week, all fuel customers were invited to play ‘spin to win’ with some lucky winners receiving their fuel for free, alongside hundreds of other prizes from across the store.

Other opening week promotions included £1 Rollover, £1 Calippo and £1 Schmoo milkshakes.

Local shoppers have also enjoyed deals including 20% off Cook ready meals all weekend, resulting in total sales being near double a normal trade.

The store re-opened mid-July after two months of work and has a modern aesthetic with dark industrial-inspired exposed ceilings and more space.

Jamie Wheeler, retail sales director at Fresh and Local Forecourts Limited, said: “Its early days with the store only reopening about a month ago, but the signs are positive and we’re glad to be able to serve the locals again.

“This is our first site with Nisa and the strong Co-op brand along with the continued support from the team has been really encouraging. We will continue listening to our customers’ needs and adapting our range to get it right for the community.”

James Townsend, key accounts manager at Nisa, added: “I’m delighted to see Ardleigh Village Service Station open its doors as a Nisa Local and I’m told the opening weeks have been very promising with strong promotions driving additional footfall to the store. We’ve seen service station stores across the UK really step up their food to go proposition recently and Ardleigh is another example of this.”
