Nisa Local Torridon Road wins Community Initiative of the Year for Torridon Community Mosaic
Nisa Local Torridon Road has been awarded Community Initiative of the Year at the 2025 Convenience Awards for its Torridon Community Mosaic - a stunning, one-of-a-kind artwork celebrating the heart of the local community.
Store owner Kaual Patel worked alongside residents to create something meaningful, bringing people together and enhancing the local area.
Through workshops at Sandhurst and Torridon Junior Schools, children were invited to draw images that represented their community. Select artwork was then incorporated into the mosaic, ensuring that the final piece was a true reflection of local pride and heritage.
Unveiled in December 2023, the mosaic features landmarks such as St. Andrews Church, the community-run library, Corbett houses, Broadway Theatre, Sandhurst School, and even Catford’s famous cat. Proudly set in stone, it provides a lasting tribute to the area's rich history and sense of togetherness.
Funded by Torridon Convenience Store, a community grant, and Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally (MADL) charity, the initiative highlights the store’s commitment to community investment.
To date, £15,000 has been donated through MADL to support local causes, reinforcing Nisa Local Torridon Road’s role as a cornerstone of the community.
Kaual Patel, owner of Torridon Convenience, said: "I'm really proud to have won Community Initiative Of The Year at The Convenience Awards 2025 for our Mosaic. It is truly a timeless piece of Art. A unique expression of community togetherness. Thank you, and a special thank you to MADL for their kind donation which helped this initiative cross the line."
