MADL shortlisted for Community Engagement Programme of the Year

Nisa's Making a Difference Locally charity have been shortlisted in the Community Engagement Programme of the Year category at the upcoming 2024 People in Retail Awards.

MADL celebrated 15 years since the charity launched in 2008 and have worked with hundreds of independent retailers and wholesale partners across the United Kingdom to provide funding for local and national community projects and good causes.

In that time, MADL has supported its independent retailers to donate over £17 million back into their local communities with retailers now earning money towards their community fund with the sale of Co-op own brand products.

It has been another hugely successful year for MADL having reached over 180,000 people in the UK throughout 2023 with 2,000 separate donations.

Over £935,000 was donated through MADL to worthy community causes and charities across the UK. This includes over £310,000 donated to shelter and security causes including Knit and Natter groups that tackle isolation and loneliness and SEN groups that bring together children, their carers and families. These donations supported over 66,000 people.

Nisa raised over £2,000 for charity partner Barnardo’s whilst also launching the Club 15 initiative at the 2023 Nisa Expo – a charity initiative to celebrate MADL’s 15th year anniversary.

Alongside Club 15, MADL also linked up with Kelloggs in an extension of the Breakfast Club campaign and launched a Pride Pot worth £50,000 to donate through Nisa retailers to support LGBTQ+ community groups and charities.

Winners of the 2024 awards will be revealed at a black-tie gala in London on 26th September, which promises to be the pinnacle of recognition, camaraderie, and celebration within the industry.

“We are delighted to unveil the shortlist for the People in Retail Awards 2024, representing a constellation of outstanding talent, passion, and dedication,” said Natalie Fresen, chief people champion for PIRA. “The Retail Bulletin extends its appreciation and congratulations to all retailers and community partners who participated in this year’s awards.”
